Bubba Gump Shrimp – Santa Monica Pier

The millions of time I have visited the Santa Monica Pier, I never tried eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp until this time. Most people know that Bubba Gump Shrimp is from the movie Forrest Gump, and naturally, the restaurant was themed after the Forrest Gump movie.

It looks like each table had a “Run Forrest Run” sign, which you can flip over to a “Stop Forrest” sign for the shrimp. As we were there early in the morning, we couldn’t eat the shrimp but we got to enjoy their breakfast. Although it was too early for shrimp, they were already serving beer. Shock Top on tap kind of became a trend for us, so that was ordered. Not only was it delicious, it came in a promotional Bubba Gump Shrimp beer cup that they give you. ( You don’t take the used one, they give you a new one in the front when you leave =)

When it comes to food, I am not a big fan of surprises. Therefore I was happy to see traditional American breakfast items on the menu. Our table order consisted of pancakes, an omelette, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and tater tots. We particularly loved the sight of the tater tots, since we really haven’t had them since we were in school

How did the food taste? It was good. I can’t say there was anything special about them, they were exactly the you expect them to be, which is the way I like my food. As I mentioned before, I really don’t like it when you orders something and it doesn’t taste the way you expect it to. One strange thing that happened was they didn’t give me any syrup with my pancakes. When I asked for syrup the server said “I thought you said no syrup”. Ok, no big deal, but the server did the same thing to the table next to us, and then he brought us honey. I didn’t mind too much, because the pancakes were actually pretty good with honey, but nonetheless it was a little strange.

So if you are ever in the Santa Monica area, Bubba Gump Shrimp is a really good place for breakfast. Sure there are other great places along the coast towards Malibu too, but this place is definitely worth a try. Plus you get to enjoy the pier too. The pier has changed a lot over time, but still has the same feel that you get from Santa Monica.

Some things that will never change about Santa Monica pier is the people fishing 24 hours a day, the talented people performing to make a buck, the caricature artists, and the churros. You’re not really supposed to eat the fish you catch here (As posted on the signs) so I’m guessing people fish here for fun. The pier has a carnival going all the time too. The games, ferris wheel, mini roller coaster, all light up at night and give the pier a awesome view.

Bubba Gump Shrimp is not only in Santa Monica, but in multiple states across the nation. There are some on the strip in Las Vegas too, but this one always caught my eye. This area is beautiful. There are a lot of things to do and see in this area. Great restaurants and hotels, shopping, this area is always packed with tourists and locals alike.
