Dyson Air Purifier Pure Hot + Cool Link, GermGuardian AC4900CA, and the Honeywell HPA300

After using these 3 air purifiers regularly, we have 2 different winners.  The best out of the 3 is the Germ Guardian AC4900CA, if you factor in cost.  If you don’t factor in cost, obviously the Dyson is the clear choice out of the 3.  I will explain why below.

Living in Henderson NV, you have to have a air purifier in your house.  Some houses obviously more than 1.  Living in the desert with allergens, burning summers, and freezing cold winters, most people don’t open the windows.  All year long, we have either the AC or the Heater on.  Therefore, most people in Nevada have humidifiers and air purifiers.  When I was living in Los Angeles, I had a Living Air Purifier with Ionization.  I honestly had this while I was in L.A because I thought it looked cool, and because I used to smoke in my house.  It definitely helped with the odor, and the air quality felt different, but here I am now where a air purifier is a MUST have.

If you have read any of my other postings, I have mentioned before that I have sinus, allergy, and breathing issues when in Nevada.  With the Germ Guardian AC4900CA, I get instant relief.  It’s almost unbelievable, but I’m sure other people with similar issues as me have experienced this instant relief before.  I think roughly about a minute after turning on the Germ Guardian, my nose starts to feel clear, and I can breathe a lot more easily.  The Germ Guardian is the only purifier out of the 3 that has a built in UV C light.  UV C is known for killing germs, bed bugs, and even mold.  Some people have questioned if the UV C light is effective when not in direct contact, and just on the air flow, however I don’t see why not.  I’m normally not that big on buying a product from a company that I don’t know, however during my last trip in L.A a friend gave us a Germ Guardian AC4900CA as a gift (Thank you again Eugene and Jenny).  I am actually thinking about buying 1 more of these for my play room.  Not only is the design very nice, it is under a $100!

What about the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link?  Yes the Dyson works really well as a air purifier, and so does the remote app.  However, it doesn’t really get Cool or Hot.  Which then of course, does not justify the price tag of $599.99.  I honestly didn’t expect the Dyson to get that cold, especially VS the brutal Nevada heat.  But I did think the heater would work a little better.  My $30 heater that I bought on amazon works better than my Dyson.  If you turn off oscillation and sit directly in front of the Dyson, maybe a foot away, it will warm you up.  If you expect the Dyson to warm up a small to mid size room, you will be disappointed.  The next time I went to Best Buy, I asked the person at the counter about this issue, and he told me that I’m not the first person to ask about it.  That says a lot about a product.

Now the Honeywell HPA300.  The Honeywell HPA300 is always stationed in our living room.  Some key features about the Honeywell, the air flow goes in through the front of the purifier, and comes out through the top.  This makes placement real easy.  In my opinion, I don’t think the Honeywell does as well as the Dyson or the GermGuardian when it comes to odors, and noticing a big change in air quality, however the HPA300 is a champ at trapping dust.  I vacuum my house once every 3 days, and the Honeywell captures the rest.  Whenever I open my Honeywell to change the filter, I know for a fact the HPA300 is trapping dust that we would have otherwise breathed in to our bodies.  The Honeywell HPA300 was a little over $200.

This is what our Honeywell filter looks like after just a few months….full of dust!

So as you can see, all 3 purifiers have HEPA filters and work great.  They have slight differences in quality and features, but pretty big price differences.  The Dyson App Link works really well and even tells you the current air quality in your house.  The design is awesome, and the feeling of fresh air is great, but it really isn’t worth the $600 price tag.  Honeywell is one of the most trusted brands, the quality is good, and $200 is not bad for this purifier.  However, the GermGuardian with built in UV C light, sleek design, for under a $100, is the winner out of the 3.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure picking 3 purifiers in the same price range might have been a better comparison, but this review is a review of the 3 that I happen to have.
