Samsung Galaxy S9 – Should have bought one sooner – VS Galaxy Note 8

I wasn’t planning on purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S9.  I have the Samsung Galaxy S8, and the Note 8.  The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is going to be released any day now, and of course the Samusng Galaxy S10 is supposed to come out early next year.  So again, I was planning on skipping the Samsung Galaxy S9.  Last week while I was in L.A, my sister broker her phone.  So I gave her my Galaxy Note 8, came back to Henderson, tried to repair her phone, but it already went through too much abuse.  So I let my sister keep my Note 8, and bought a S9 for myself.  I bought the S9 knowing that it may be a slight downgrade from the Note 8, but that wasn’t important to me.

 

So far, it’s not a downgrade at all from the Note 8.  Although the S9 has 4GB of Ram and the Note 8 has 6GB, the S9 actually has a slightly faster processor (2.8 GHZ Snapdragon VS 2.4 GHZ Snapdragon).  For most people, the most notable difference will be the size of the phone itself.  Of course the S9 is smaller, but it doesn’t necessarily make your screen size that much smaller.  5.75 Oz. with a 5.8 inch display turned out to be a good trade off for me VS. the 6.88 Oz. with a 6.3 inch display Note 8.  And of course for the people who want that bigger screen, the S9+ has a 6.2 inch display.  Personally I like being able to put my phone in my car cup holder again.

 

The design itself is actually very similar to the Galaxy S8.  The front screen is curved, and so is the back.  There is a metal frame in the middle, and the phone fits comfortably in your hands.  The flagship AMOLED display on the S9 has a whopping 568 PPI, and the resolution is 1490 x 2960.  The fingerprint sensor has been moved, and the Galaxy S9 can support a micro SD Card up to 400 GB.  The thing that impressed me the most about the Galaxy S9 was probably the camera.  Phones these days have cameras that are so good, you really don’t need to carry a separate camera anymore for most occasions.  Which also means, whenever a new phone comes out with a better camera, most people can’t really notice a difference in the picture quality from their last phone.  With the S9 I was definitely able to see a difference.  The picture below was taken with my S9.  Most pictures that I put on this blog or other sites are touched up with photoshop.  The photo below is un-edited.

 

Another major difference the S9 has, is stereo speakers, unlike the S8 or the Note 8.  Of course when I listen to music at home, I will connect my phone to a different speaker source or my headphones most of the time, but sometimes I will listen to a song real fast, or stream video on my phone through its speakers.  The stereo speakers definitely makesa difference, and actually doesn’t sound bad.  The feature that I was really excited about, but can’t get to work too well is the AR Emoji.  I tried making a few of myself, and sent it to people, but the feedback I got was that it doesn’t look like me at all.  I haven’t had that much time to play with it yet, and I’m sure I will figure it out soon. =)  D.I
